10th Annual Bath Biomechanics Symposium
The 10th Anniversary Bath Biomechanics Symposium:
Current Issues and Future Opportunities in Orthopaedic Research
Monday 15th September 2014
To celebrate the 10th Anniversary of the Bath Biomechanics Symposium, we aim to create a broad programme of papers that highlight current hot topics in orthopaedics, and technologies that offer future prospects. These will undoubtedly define future research agendas. Orthopaedic research must focus on developing advanced technologies to improve clinical outcomes and meet patient expectations, against a backdrop of unsustainable demands on healthcare provision. New and developing technologies may have the potential to improve patient care, but must also fit within the drive to make healthcare more efficient.
Submissions are invited, from researchers and clinicians, which address any current orthopaedic issues and discuss potential solutions and opportunities for future research.
Examples of relevant areas include:
• New implant technologies and designs
• New manufacturing methods
• Surgical techniques
• Materials research
• Tissue engineering
• Functional assessment
• Standardised pre-clinical testing
• Challenges of introducing innovation

SICOT ICL
SICOT India after conducting global SICOT conference at Hyderabad is pleased to announce the next mega academic event SICOT ICL Jaipur. With great pleasure, we invite you for this exciting and very ambitious, Instructional Course Lectures (ICL) to be held at Jaipur from 26th to 28th September, 2014.
This meeting is under aegis of Socie'te' Internationale de Chirugie Orthope'dique et de Traumatolgie, Indian division (SICOT India). This ICL course is aimed at all orthopaedic and trauma surgeons, in training and who wish to learn and improve their decision making and surgical skills. The ultimate goal is to share what we are learning to compare results, collaborate on promising treatments and disseminate this important information to the orthopaedic community at large.
One of the key attraction include a day long young surgeon program directed at the PGs in training and young consultant. The sessions will have case discussions, focused talks on relevant sub-specialities and also a 'breaking the barrier session' in which the young surgeons can proactively seek mentors who can guide them on various aspects of orthopaedics- academic or otherwise.
This meeting includes 2 days scientific sessions of didactic lectures form very eminent faculty who have dedicated quite a lot of their time into their field of expertise. There is plenty of opportunity for interactive sessions and networking.
The new Hotel Hilton will be the venue and we have worked out attractive residential packages, despite it being a major tourist season in Jaipur. The glorious weather in September, subsidized packages and the academia, promise you a gratifying event.
Rationalising the Follow up of Patients with MoM Hip Replacements
About the Course:
Now that the dust has settled after the ASR recall, there are over one million patients worldwide with Metal on Metal (MOM) hips. The decisions are straightforward to monitor the well functioning and revise the very poor functioning hips. However, there is uncertainty in managing the moderately well functioning patient or patient with moderately abnormal test results: these are the bulk of patients.
Through the sharing and comparing of current clinical management, the meeting will address the following:
a.)Reduce unnecessary revision surgery by helping to decide who, when and how revision should be performed
b.)Offer surgeons a method that helps make managing patients easier
Who Should Attend?
Consultants, Senior Hip Fellows, Senior Registrars, Industry Representatives and Regulatory Officials with an interest in monitoring or revising patients with metal on metal hip replacements.
